COMMUNITY IN ACTION
Advancing Veteran interoperability
The VIP Community of Practice works the real-world interoperability challenges that affect Veterans in community care, turning member experience at the point of care into shared practice and formal recommendations.
WHERE THE WORK IS FOCUSED
The problems we're working
Confirming Veteran status
Community providers need a reliable way to confirm Veteran status at registration.
The Community documents registration workflows built on the VA Title 38 Veteran Confirmation API and defines the practices that make a confirmation actionable at the point of care.
Navigating benefits and eligibility
A confirmed Veteran still needs to reach the right benefits.
The Community maps how eligibility information moves from confirmation to care decisions, anchored in real-world use cases that generalize across the VA benefits and programs Veterans rely on in community care.
Coordinating records across systems
Results and records that move by fax or paper too often miss the clinical workflow entirely.
The Community defines the data exchange practices that put Veteran information where providers can act on it, reducing duplicate testing and care delays.
FROM PRACTICE TO RECOMMENDATION
How the work moves

Most of what the Community produces moves member to member: documented workflows, best practices, and lessons learned that build a shared knowledge repository. When consensus calls for VA action, the Community develops a formal recommendation and delivers it to VA Leadership.

Documenting real-world workflows and tracking the standards and regulatory landscape.
Best practices and lessons learned move member to member and build the knowledge repository.
When consensus calls for VA action, the Community delivers a formal recommendation to VA Leadership.
COMMUNITY VOICE
Why members participate
This community gives us a place to surface what's actually happening at the point of care — the gaps that don't show up in policy documents but that providers deal with every day when a Veteran walks through the door, and the system doesn't recognize them.
